When my older daughter turned 18 last February, I was pleased to find that what made her happiest was that she was now old enough to vote. Despite my many failings as a parent, I have to believe that I've done something right if she's looking forward to exercising her civic duty.
I'm pretty sure that most of our readers are more than old enough to vote, so for today, I'm going to do three things:
In the past few years I've begun to question the quality of democracy in our country. I'm afraid that as citizens we've become complacent and with complacence comes greater opportunities for abuse and manipulation. If we don't care that much, those who do can step into the vacuum. This election offers an opportunity for our voices to be heard, but if we don't speak out by voting, then we're part of the problem.
Voting is both your right and your responsibility. So as Nike would say, "Just Do It."
